Within the framework of the European Project WILDCAT- Workshops on ILlustrated Democratic Citizenship for young AdulTs, Project No. 101147915 financed by the CERV-2023-CITIZENS-CIV call of the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV) to foster Citizens’ engagement and participation, a competition is announced for amateur comic scriptwriters. The competition is open to all comic scriptwriters, of any gender, regardless of age, who hold the nationality of one of the European Union Member States. To participate in the competition, it is necessary to complete the appropriate online form, including personal data and contact information. The competition will take place entirely through digital means, allowing remote participation. The competition will consist of participation in an online Project event, during which three debates focused on three different European Union policies (Women’s Rights, Green Deal, and Artificial Intelligence) will be screened; participants must watch all three videos and then submit three script outlines, each based on one of the aforementioned policies. The three outlines will serve as the basis for the creation of three 60-page comics; the comics will be created collaboratively with the young participants in the Project, who will use the outlines to suggest input on how to continue the plot based on the developments of the European policies they would like to see for themselves and for all European citizens. These inputs will be collected by the project partners during five events to be held next year, 2025, at five comic festivals organized in five European countries. The winning scriptwriters will turn these inputs into fully developed comic stories, which will then be turned into strips by the Project’s illustrators, published online, and compiled into a single volume to be presented to representatives of the European Commission during a final event in Brussels, to be held in early 2025.
