1992 became 1993 and we decided to hold our first gathering on March 27th in a small room on the first floor of a local pub in Ghent, called ‘Het Tonneke’ (“The little ton”, sounds so much like a place to organize a SF-con, doesn’t it ?).
The convention was, by all means, a minor thing. Not familiar with organizing a convention and having no important financial means (do bear in mind that most of us were still students), the advertising ‘campaign’ for the first edition of F.A.C.T.S. limited itself to mouth-to-mouth advertisement (read: we talked about it to our friends) and the making of a poster, which we distributed in about 30 copies (of which more than half had been badly copied …). There were, all in all, a whopping two dealer’s tables (ours and that of Danny, a great guy who has been attending every edition of our convention ever since) and we welcomed about 40 visitors (some of which were just in the pub and curious what was going on up there). The convention started at about 10 ‘o clock and finished around +- 15.30 h (we basically just called it quits when no-one was turning up anymore).
Granted, the first edition could hardly be called a big success, but most importantly we had acquired the taste of it and we wanted more.
F.A.C.T.S. would be back, bigger and better this time!
