Carrie Frances Fisher was born October 21, 1956.

She made her film debut in 1975 with the Columbia comedy Shampoo starring Warren Beatty, Julie Christie and Goldie Hawn.

Carrie Fisher starred as Princess Leia Organa in George Lucas’s Star Wars original trilogy opposite Mark Hamill & Harrison Ford.

She became an instant pop culture icon due to her appearance wearing a golden metal bikini in Return of the Jedi.

She made other notable appearances in The Blues Brothers, Hannah and her Sisters, When Harry Met Sally, The Burbs, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Scream 3 and the Kevin Smith comedy Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

In 1987, Fisher published her first novel, Postcards from the Edge which was adapted for the screen by herself and starring Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine and Dennis Quaid.

She will reprise her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode VII, due to be released in 2015.
